Whilst visiting friends in Easthampton, Massachusetts, we took their dog for a walk over Mount Tom. They took me to its abandoned Ski Resort, closed down in 1998, and now covered head to toe in graffiti. It has become a kind of self-made youth club and it was eerie to walk around the deserted buildings. It felt as if people had just picked up and left, and I was honestly waiting for a zombie to come creeping out of the dark corners and discarded basements. What struck me the most about my visit to America was the amount of buildings left abandoned. It’s something we don’t see in the UK, as buildings are often demolished or turned into something new, very rarely being left to rot.
